Traditional Italian Tiramisu

"Coffee-infused layers of indulgent mascarpone, a luscious Italian dessert delight."


– 6 egg yolks – 3/4 cup sugar – 2/3 cup milk – 1 1/4 cups heavy cream – 8 oz mascarpone cheese – 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled – 2 tbsp rum or coffee liqueur – 24 ladyfingers – Cocoa powder, for dusting

Step 1

Whisk egg yolks and sugar in a bowl until creamy. Heat milk in a saucepan until simmering. Remove from heat. Gradually pour hot milk into egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly.

Step 2

Cook mixture in a saucepan over low heat until thickened. Let it cool. Whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Fold whipped cream into cooled mixture.

Step 3

 Beat mascarpone cheese until smooth, then fold into the mixture. Dip ladyfingers in coffee mixture and arrange a layer in a dish. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over ladyfingers.

Step 4

Repeat with another layer of ladyfingers and remaining mixture. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.

Step 5

Dust with cocoa powder before serving.   Slice and enjoy chilled!
